Following closure of Taylor County’s 100-year-old jail in 2013 by the Iowa Department of Corrections due to structural concerns, the County was forced to transport and board all of their inmates outside the county at great expense.  The County hired Prochaska & Associates to complete a Needs Assessment and develop Preliminary Concept options for a new, code-compliant jail facility.  Like many other antiquated county jails across the Midwest, their undersized 8-bed jail did not permit adequate segregation of inmates and had become an increasing security and safety liability to the County.  Voters approved construction of a new 14-bed jail, sheriff’s office and emergency dispatch facility in November 2013.  Prochaska & Associates completed design of the facility and a groundbreaking was celebrated in July 2014.  Following construction, Taylor County occupied their new, modern and efficient Law Enforcement Center in the fall of 2015.
